The sustainable agroforestry park, an environmental project with a social perspective

Considering the lack of green areas in Tijuana, a group of citizens committed to the environment, have formed a Civil Association, under the leadership of René Romandía and the benefactor vision of Pbro. Ricardo Castillo Rivera M. Sp. S. The idea is to work to give the city a park that will become a lung for Tijuana, impacting a population of approximately 20 thousand inhabitants of the Sanchez Taboada delegation.

This is the Parque Agroforestal Sustentable, A.C., “PASAC”, conceived as a farm based on the concept of circular economy, as well as on philosophies of social and environmental responsibility. The park has been projected in an area of 1.2 hectares, with an initial investment of 66 million 184 thousand 650 pesos and is intended to function as an organic food production center that will benefit the families of this community both nutritionally and economically.

On the other hand, the culture of forestation will be promoted and a community center will be integrated, where courses on values and empowerment will be given to children and adults so that they can learn to lead a more sustainable life in a safe space of commitment, respect and equity. The aim is to build peaceful, prosperous, and inclusive societies.

The project is designed to support the inhabitants of an area of the city where several industrial parks are located and the maquiladora managers will be called upon to participate, contributing with their contribution to the improvement of air quality for present and future generations.

The WHO recommends 9 to 50m2 of green areas per person, Tijuana has less than 1m2.

PASAC was born in Tijuana in November 2021, to consolidate over time as a unique project in the city, since it considers not only the environmental aspect, but also the social and cultural. PASAC’s driving force is made up of René Romandía, as president; Ricardo Castillo Rivera, treasurer; Luis Miguel Torres Leal, secretary; and Gerardo Salcedo and Octavio López as members. Carmen Avitia, who has extensive experience in project management and fundraising, has recently joined the team as director.
